Samuel KNIGHT was a blacksmith.
He married Thomison BARNETT in August 1785 in Stoke on Trent. They had seven children before Thomasin died in 1811, aged 47.
Samuel died of 'decline' in January 1839 in Hanley, aged 74, and was buried in nearby Bucknall. The burial record gives his age as 75 while the death registration gives 74; suggesting that he was born in 1763, 1764 or early January 1765. The death was reported by his daughter in law Mary, who might have been Mary nee DEAKIN.
There are three local baptisms that might have been Samuel's:
- Samuel KNIGHT - 2 Feb 1765 Cheddleton, Stafford, by John and Elizabeth KNIGHT. Cheddleton is 9 miles NE of Stoke on Trent.
- Samuel KNIGHT - 16 May 1765 Newcastle Under Lyme, Stafford, by John KNIGHT, blacksmith
- Samuel KNIGHT - 26 Oct 1765 Newcastle Under Lyme, Stafford, by John KNIGHT
Given his stated profession, the most likely is 16 May 1765 in Newcastle Under Lyme, by John KNIGHT, blacksmith.
