Narrative and Notes

Alice MILES was born in October 1849 in Tamworth, Staffs. Alice was a machinist in 1881 and a tailoress in 1891 and 1901.

She married Henry John Parkes and had six daughters: Fanny Elizabeth, Rose Ann, Clara, Alice, Mary Ann and Ada.

In 1871 the family were staying with Henry's father John in Hepworth, Yorkshire. Alice would have been pregnant at the time of the census. She returned to Tamworth for the birth in August 1871 of Rose Ann, but gave her address as "Hazlehead, Hepworth, Yorkshire". Their next two daughters were born in Tamworth, but Mary Ann was born in Stalybridge, Lancashire in 1878/9.

By 1881 they were living at 3 Eanam, Blackburn, close to the railway station in the centre of the town, and in 1891, they were living with her son-in-law, James Higginson and his family at 49 Grimshaw Park Road, Blackburn.

She died on 30 Dec 1902 at 6 Maudsley Street, Blackburn of cancer of the uterus.
