Elizabeth WARDLE married Edward MILES in 1783, although only based on an unconfirmed IGI record. Elizabeth and Edward had five child christened in Clifton Campville towards the end of the 18th century including John MILES.
In 1841 an Elizabeth MILES, aged 85-89 was living with John MILES in Clifton. It is not known where she was born, other then it was not in Staffordshire. It was thought that this was John's mother, however this elderly lady's death certificate states that she was the 'widow of the late James MILES Labourer'
. It might be that the name James was a error made by the registrar, however it is possible that this Elizabeth was indeed the widow of a James MILES who was a close relative to John and Mary MILES. There is no record of a James MILES being born or marrying an Elizabeth in the area or time, however this is no proof that this didn't happen.
The Elizabeth MILES of the death certificate died on 9 Oct 1844 aged 87, so if it does belong to Elizabeth WARDLE then she would have been born between 10 Oct 1757 and 9 Oct 1758.
The closest potential baptisms for an Elizabeth WARDLE between 1750 and 1760s were from Cole Orton, Leicestershire which is a 4 hour walk away from Clifton Campville. None perfectly fit the above birth date range Given the number it's not possible to identify a best candidate. They include:
