Narrative and Notes

Christopher TILL is believed to be the father of Mary TILL, however her baptismal record in Whittington has her and her parents' names as TAYLOR.

Christopher TILL had married Alice CHEADLE in December 1813, and they baptized four other children between 1817 and 1827 under the TILL surname, but for some reason the St Giles, Whittington church records give the name TAYLOR. Two other couples christened children on the same day as Mary.

Was this a record keeping error, or was there some other reason for the temporary use of the name TAYLOR?

The latter seems possible as, at approximately the same time, Christopher's brother Thomas gained a marriage license to marry Martha BROWN of nearby Lullington also using the name TAYLOR. He too then reverted to TILL.
