These are to certify that the Bearer hereof Henry Archibald has served in the aforesaid reginment for the space of six years is for the Reason below mentioned discharged from the said regiment , he having received his Pay, Arrears of Pay, Cloathing of all sorts, and all other just Demands from the time of his inlisting into the said Regiment to this day of Discharge, and having lost his right hand by the Blasting of a rock upon Brimstone Hill, when on duty, 3rd day of December 1879
[ ] is discharged & Humbly Recommended as a Proper object of His Majesty's Royal Bounty of Chelsea Hospital
And to prevent any ill Use that may be made of this Discharge by its falling into the Hands of any other Person whatsoever, here follows a Description of the abovesaid Henry Archibald he is aged about Twenty two Years of age [ ] feet 5 1/2 inches high, of a swarthy complexion, [dar]k eyes, long visage and dark Hair, born in the Parish of Dalkeith in the County of Mid Lothian [by] trade a Miner
