Betty is only mentioned on the christening records of her children Rebekah and Daniel.
Jno. FIRTH married a Betty HOLDSWORTH at Halifax in February 1771.
A boy, Daniel, was baptised by John FIRTH of Northrowram on 26 May 1771.
Holdsworth is where John and Betty's son John lived in Ovenden, near Halifax, suggesting that the family may have given the name to the place or vice versa.
Possible baptismal records include:
- 22 Nov 1747 - James Holdsworth - Briers Chapel - implies birth of final child when she was 46
- 29 Jan 1748 - David Holdsworth, weaver of Halifax - Halifax
- 28 Jan 1749 - Benj Holdsworth, labourer of Northrowram - Halifax (Buried 4 Jun 1752)
- 18 Nov 1750 - William Holdsworth, collier of Halifax - Halifax (Buried 21 Oct 1751)
- 1 Jun 1756 - James Holdsworth - Halifax - implies married at 15 years old
None of the above are compelling; most being either too old, too young or died in infancy. The 1748 baptism by David HOLDSWORTH does fit, although none of her children were called David (although there are gaps in baptismal dates including 1772-1773 and 1778-1781).
Other information:
A Jeremy HOLDSWORTH of "Sodder's Green" baptized Grace in August 1774. Betty's daughter-in-law Hannah FIRTH nee RAMSDEN was living on Sod House Green in the mid-1800's. No other local baptisms by a Jeremy HOLDWORTH have been found though. Jeremiah HOLDSWORTH was baptized by Samuel of Ovenden in 1834 in Illingworth. Samuel baptized many children in the period 1729-1741, but no Betty/Elizabeth.
